A new 2008 Volvo S80 navigation system is available on all models. The Elite's rear seat is divided by a center console, heated, and angled to provide 2 inches more leg room. It accommodates two passengers and includes a power sunshade, DVD video and TV tuner, and a refrigerated compartment. Volvo's S80 On Call Plus assistance system is new for 2008. It's optional on the 2008 Volvo S80 2.9 and standard on other S80 models. Rain-sensing wipers are a new option.
The base 2008 Volvo S80 2.9 is equipped with a 2.9-liter inline six-cylinder engine that generates a respectable 197 horsepower and 207 pound feet of torque. For the T6 models, Volvo takes the new 2.9's engine and bolts on two small turbochargers. Even with slightly less displacement the T6's engine belts out 268 horsepower at 5,400 rpm and a prodigious 280 lb-ft of torque at 2,000 rpm. Both 2008 Volvo S80 engines are mated to four-speed automatic transmissions. Additionally, the T6 provides a Geartronic feature that allows for manual shifting if the driver desires.
