All 2000 Volkswagen passenger cars will come with several brackets in the back seat for anchoring the tether straps. Light trucks, vans, and pickups were required to have these brackets in the Volkswagen 2001 models.
If your car is not a 2000 model, you can usually obtain a tether anchor kit made especially for Volkswagen's at your local Volkswagen dealership. Some are easy to install yourself; others require a mechanic. Tether straps for many 1997-1999 car seats are available from the seats' manufacturers. Be sure to use the one specifically designed for your car seat. All 2009 Volkswagen Beetle's should have tethers factory installed.
