2008 2009 Chevy Avalanche offers a Vortec 5300 V8 SFI engine in Avalanche has 285 horsepower, standard in the Avalanche 2500. The Autotrac transfer case (4x4 models only) makes adjusting to road conditions easy. When the system is engaged, power is automatically transferred between the rear and front wheels whenever rear-wheel slippage is detected.

Its engine, a Vortec 8100 V-8 SFI, offers more torque than a V8 or V10 gasoline engine from Ford or Dodge. Standard trailering features include Tow/Haul mode, and 4wheel anti-lock brakes.
